SIR AP MCCOY COLLECTION
Record Breaking 2001-2002
Sir Gordon Richards rode the most winners in a season, a record that had stood for 55 years. According to Sir AP himself “beating this record in 2001-2002 will always be my greatest achievement.” 289 winners in a season is a record that still stands today. This artwork captures that famous milestone, achieved by Sir AP aboard Valfonic, riding him to victory at Warwick on April 2nd 2002.
Produced in the studio by Sir AP himself, the paints used to create the original were infused with the DNA of Cheltenham and Aintree, the turf from both racecourses and needles from the hedge rows of Aintree.
